W.B.’s Fabulous Four: Facilities Maintenance

Fabulous Four Facilities Maintenance

There was a popular television program in the 90’s where one of the main characters liked to boast that he knew the cleanest, most welcoming restrooms in all of New York City. Upper East side?  He had you covered. Mid-Town? Go to the hotel on the corner, ask for Louie. The Village? There’s a coffee shop that you’ll be very comfortable in. Hotels, retailers, or restaurants, it didn’t matter – if nature called, he knew exactly where to go. Of course, this show was a comedy, but we all can appreciate the plight of this character. Everyone likes a clean restroom. I would like to imagine the thing that made those facilities so appealing is because they were maintained by the highest quality products – and supplied by W.B. Mason! Of course, keeping a tidy workplace is not unique to the restroom alone. Your lobby, office spaces, kitchen, hallways, and break rooms are just a few examples of areas that facilities teams must maintain. In this month’s Fabulous Four, we will explore some facilities maintenance products that can make your business one of the finest and be appreciated by your employees and customers alike.

Best New Item: Kimberly-Clark Professional™ ICON™ Automatic Roll Towel Dispensers

Kimberly Clark Professional Automatic Towel Dispensers

Have you ever finished washing your hands in the restroom only to turn and find one those old-style hand blowers?  You most likely did what I do, which is to opt for drying my hands on my pants. They are slow, are notoriously unhygienic and basically don’t do the one thing they are designed for, which is drying your hands. This is where Kimberly-Clark comes in. They have engineered a series of paper towel dispensers that are not only easy to use but incredibly simple to service as well. Delivering 99.99% jam-free dispensing, it is markedly quiet and hands-free for the user while minimizing physical interactions for the person reloading. Did I mention that they come in interchangeable faceplates for the front of the dispenser, making it easy to match the decor in the room? I think I’ll take the “Ebony Woodgrain”, thank you.

Unsung Hero: PURELL® Professional Surface Disinfecting Wipes

PURELL Professional Surface Disinfecting Wipes

These wipes are one of the handiest things I can think of to keep stocked in the facilities closet. So much so that one could make a case that this should be the unsung hero this month. Purell’s Professional Surface Disinfecting Wipes are incredibly versatile, high-quality, and safe for a multitude of uses. These wipes kill 99.9% of viruses and bacteria (as well as COVID-19), all without harsh chemicals making it so that you won’t even need to wash your hands after use. You can use them on just about any surface, and they smell great to boot! With 3 boys at home, I think I’ll have to order some for home-use as well.

Product Most Likely to be Found in My Home: Scott® 100% Recycled Fiber 2-Ply Bathroom Tissue

Scott Recycled Fiber Bathroom Tissue

There are a whole bunch of products that could have qualified this month for this category, but let’s be honest, there is really only one that matters: toilet paper. Specifically, Scott’s Two-Ply Bathroom Tissue, which is right up my alley. It’s economical, durable, recycled, and safe for those finicky septic systems. Having a family of five over here requires a healthy number of rolls in supply so I’ll be buying the bulk pack of 80, naturally.

MVP: Kleenex® White Facial Tissue

Kleenex White Facial Tissue

This month’s most valuable product is synonymous with facial tissue. It’s that gentle softness on your face and hands that makes it stand out from its competitors. Environmentally friendly with a FSC certification means that the materials are responsibly harvested from sustainable sources. I’m talking about Kleenex of course! With a smart refill alert, the last ten tissues turn from white to cream indicating that a new box will be needed soon. If you are like me and sneeze 400 times a day during allergy season – you’ll need a few cases of them. A good office space should have some in the restroom and break rooms as well, making it convenient and sanitary when they are needed.

That’ll do it for this month’s edition of the Fab Four. One last tip… if you’re ever in Manhattan and need a restroom, look for a business with our truck parked in front. It’s a good bet that business buys the highest quality supplies and has the cleanest set-up!
