For a year and a half, I have been working remote. When it was first announced I was a little nervous. I’ve had the occasional remote workday, but 5 days a week for the foreseeable future? I guess it was just going to have to work!
After the news broke and ushered in this new normal, I knew I needed to find a space in my home for my new “office”. The pandemic was so new, and so little was known about it, I didn’t know how long this working remote plan was going to last. I thought it could last anywhere from 1 to 3 months, and then I’d be back at my desk in the office. Little did I know this was not the case. Since I didn’t have a good idea of what to expect, I did not plan too far ahead.
This led me to work at my kitchen table. It wasn’t the most ideal location, but for a couple months, it would do. I set my space up like my desk at work: laptop, monitor, Post-it® notes, pens, calendar, and highlighters – the essentials. This set worked well, and it was a good thing too, because the next thing I knew a year went by and I still found myself with the same set up – sitting at my kitchen table. With still so much unknown in the world I still couldn’t bring myself to invest in a true office space. Would I be called in next week or next month to come back in the office? Everything was up in the air, and I wasn’t ready just then to take the plunge and make a purchase for a real office.
Cut to the present, a year and a half of working from home later, and I finally decided to take the leap. Bite the bullet. Jump in with both feet. It was finally time to get myself a true office desk and chair and make a designated office area that didn’t double as a place I eat breakfast, lunch and dinner at.
Now comes the fun part – what to buy! Fortunately for me, I work on the Furniture category here at W.B. Mason, so I know all the new and noteworthy items on wbmason.com. Having a hand in getting these items up, I knew exactly what products I wanted. HON recently added several different work from home specific items that had caught my eye.
For my work from home space, I wanted something that didn’t look too office-y – my new set-up was going to be in my main living area, so I wanted to make sure it flowed with the rest of my furniture. With this in mind, I decided to go with the HON Multipurpose Matter Chair and HON Coze Table Desk. Simple, comfortable, casual – perfect for my new at-home office.
I’m not sure what the future holds, but I know regardless of what happens – remote, hybrid or back in the office, I now have a designated workspace to help stay productive and find more work/life balance!
